Former Board Member

Marcel Jardeleza

Marcel has always been inspired by DW’s mission to make whitewater activities equitable for all. Growing up on the island of Guam that has world-famous dive sites and various water sports, she never had the opportunity to try those activities until she was much older. When Marcel moved to Colorado for her graduate studies, she found herself in a similar situation where she wanted to learn winter and whitewater sports, but it was not readily available. Marcel’s experience with the lack of equity in outdoor sports in general inspired her to volunteer to continue DW’s mission.

She worked as a DW officer because she believes she can help move this organization’s vision forward. As a high school student, she had experience in leadership roles in a non-profit in Guam that focused on keeping youths drug- free. Marcel also enjoys volunteering for various community service programs that specifically target promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. Marcel is very new at paddle sports, but she loves being in the water and outside.

After participating in DW’s community event, Marcel began paddle boarding and plans to purchase a kayak for this summer’s activities. She hopes that by being more involved in this group she will continue to enjoy various paddling activities and help build a community of people of color in Colorado.
