Lily Durkee
co-founder & director
Lily is the Co-founder and Director of Diversify Whitewater. She started kayaking at the age of 9 at Valley Mill Camp near Washington, DC, which launched a lifetime love of whitewater. She competed nationally and internationally in whitewater slalom as a teenager, and she has since found joy in laps on her local river, the Cache la Poudre, and multi-day rafting trips around the west. By day, Lily is a research ecologist studying insects and plants at the US Geological Survey in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Ash Goldstein O’Rourke
communications & social media manager
Ash Goldstein was raised in the mountains of Colorado where they spent much of their time outside in the dirt, snow, and on the water. They joined the Diversify Whitewater admin team in 2024, and have over four years of visual design experience. In addition to their work at Diversify Whitewater they run Greenwater Press, a small independent press that produces several titles each year. They currently reside in Washington and, in addition to watersports, enjoy cooking, writing, and making sarcastic jokes.

Kallie Kurtz
KAYAK PROGRESSION PROGRAM MANAGER
Alaskan-grown and now rooted in White Salmon, Kallie has supported people getting on the water for nearly two decades and has volunteered with DW since 2020. In 2023, she developed the PNW Progression program, which she continues to manage. She channels her deep passion for river sports into creating supportive, accessible spaces for underrepresented communities, specializing in high-quality river instruction, safety training, and mentorship to break down the financial and cultural barriers that too often keep people off the water. Kallie is a licensed behavioral health clinician, frequently collaborating with outdoor organizations to provide clinical services and psychoeducation – learn more about her work at Grove Institute.
